Translational Biology
The pathway of research that develops a basic scientific discoveries towards potential new treatment for disease is known as translational biology. SULSA seeks to exploit the outstanding research that already exists in Scotland in cell biology, bioinformatics, structural biology and medicinal chemistry to create facilities and new research capabilities in translational biology and, more generally, in chemical biology.
In doing so, the SULSA Translational Biology Theme will accelerate the identification of novel targets and lead compounds for major and neglected diseases, and will provide new small molecule probes for cell and systems biology. These advances will create new commercial opportunities for Scotland.
