PhD Modelling Skills workshop 5-6 November 2009

Dr Steve Webb - University of StrathclydeOn the 5th and 6th November 2009, systems biology students from across Scotland attended a special workshop organised by Dr Steve Webb of the University of Strathclyde.

The workshop was aimed at PhD students from wet-lab backgrounds, and was designed to equip students with the skills to develop, understand and analyse simple theoretical models. There was an emphasis on the learning and practical implementation of the latest theoretical tools and methodologies and their application to addressing biological problems. The workshop provided a grounding in the basics of simulation modelling and theory, and encouraged cross-disciplinary learning, thinking and communication.

Students were also encouraged to practice their networking skills by talking to their colleagues from other institutions, over a social dinner and drinks. An information session also contained talks from speakers from the Genecom Orhpans Project and The Scottish Bioinformatics Forum.

The programme of talks is below, and you can download the presentations from the speakers by clicking on the links.
