Scottish Metabolomics Facility Open for Business
The Scottish Metabolomics facility (ScotMet), funded by SULSA, is now open and ready to receive samples and collaborate on projects. ScotMet is a shared facility between the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow, drawing on expertise from both centres.
aims to comprehensively and simultaneously characterise many metabolites. It can give a picture of the dynamic status of a living system, and is a key component of systems biology. Measuring perturbations in metabolite concentrations (quantitative metabolomics) gives insight into the systems and processes that are the result of genetic or environmental changes.
The facility has state-of-the-art metabolite screening facilities incorporating two Thermo Orbitrap Exactive mass spectrometers, an Orbitrap XL MS with ion mobility source, an Orbitrap Classic, and DSQ-II GCMS capability. The facility also has considerable expertise in data analysis and translating mass spectra to useful biology.
