Professor Ruth Ross

 Professor Ruth RossRuth Ross she obtained a PhD in Pharmacology from The University of Edinburgh in 1989. She held research posts in Discovery Biology at Pfizer Central Research in Kent and at Allergan Inc. California. Following a 4 year career break, she obtained a Wellcome Trust Career Re-entry Fellowship at the University of Aberdeen in 1996. She is currently Professor of Molecular Pharmacology engaged in research into the molecular pharmacology of the cannabinoids and related lipid signalling systems. Her research is directed both toward gaining insight into the deleterious effects of cannabis smoking, the potential for cannabis a medicine and the development of small molecules targeting G protein coupled receptors. Together with medicinal chemists she is engaged in the development of novel small molecule therapeutics for major diseases including cancer, diabetes and chronic pain. Professor Ross currently has funding from the BBSRC, National Institutes of Health (NIH), FP7 Marie Curie Industry-Academia Partnerships and various industrial partnerships including CASE studentships and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP).

Professor Ross is Director of The Kosterlitz Centre for Therapeutics, which is focussed on the translation of biological innovation and biology research excellence in University of Aberdeen into novel drug discovery strategies.  The centre has national and international academic and industrial partnerships.
