OMX Microscope upgrade complete and ready for use
The SULSA funded OMX super-resolution microscope at University of Dundee has gone through an upgrade by its manufacturer Applied Precision Instruments. The upgrade leaves OMX with latest electronics and new, user friendly software. The OMX microscope is now again open to scientists from any Scottish University.
In addition, Dr Markus Posch has been appointed as OMX Scientific Officer at the University of Dundee Light Microscopy Facility.
The OMX super-resolution microscope allows users to explore the spatial and temporal elements of biological processes with greater resolution than ever before. The Structured-Illumination technology used by OMX can generate images with a resolution approximately twice that which is normally possible - to ~100nm in the image plane and ~270nm along the optical axis. Biological structures that were once indistinguishable from one another can now be identified as separate entities. Alternatively, fast, multi-spectral, live-cell 3D imaging allows to monitor cellular processes at unpreceded sampling rates.
