Professor Jeremy Mottram

Jeremy’s laboratory works on parasitic protozoa that are the causative agents of the neglected tropical diseases leishmaniasis and Human African Trypanosomiasis.  His main research interest is in the molecular mechanisms by which Leishmania and trypanosome parasites undergo cellular remodelling during their complex life cycles.  The lab’s focus is on cell signalling events (protein kinases), the turnover of proteins and organelles (peptidases and autophagy) and target validation for drug development.  Jeremy completed his PhD at the University of Glasgow and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California San Francisco.  He returned to the University of Glasgow, where he spent 10 years as an MRC Senior Research Fellow.  He is currently Professor of Molecular and Cellular Parasitology.
