Professor David Leach
Since October 2002, David Leach has held a personal chair of Molecular Genetics at the University of Edinburgh. From 2005 to 2008 he was Head of Institute of Cell Biology and he is currently Head of School of Biological Sciences, a post that he took up in 2008. His research group uses Escherichia coli as a model organism to investigate molecular mechanisms of genome instability and genetic recombination. In particular, he has investigated the processing of palindromic DNA sequences, sites of DNA double-strand breakage and genome rearrangement.
He took up the post of lecturer at the University of Edinburgh in 1983 and before that carried out research at the Universities of Oregon (USA) and Sussex (UK).
